Class Impressions
by Mrs. Bev Shilka

I am always quite pleased and honored when a grade 12 class asks me to speak at their graduation. It causes me to reflect upon our experiences together while focusing upon each individual as the unique person he/she has become. We have shared so much. I've laughed with them and I've cried with them; I've been proud of them and I've been frustrated with them. I've grieved with them and now I celebrate with them. And so it is with a sense of closeness that I now give my impressions of the graduands of 2003.

Aaron is a young lad
With interests varied true.
He really loves his basketball
And his guitar playing too.
The Prairie Bible Institute
Is the place where he will be,
Working hard and having fun
Fulfilling his destiny.

          Alicia's new this year,
From Hines Creek she did roam.
          Immediately she became a part
          Of the Worsley Wildcat's home.
          Student Council welcomed her
          And with her lively ways
It didn't take long for her winning smile
          To animate our days.

Anica joined us in Grade Ten,
A happy, shy, but quiet girl
An artist, with her pen.
Her plans are set - she'll soon be off
To Edmonton she goes,
Where Grant MacEwan waits for her
What she wants she knows.

It wasn't until full Grade Ten
          That April joined our group,
But soon she's active in our school
          Joining the Student Council loop.
She plans on working for a while
          With schooling a future role
But she's the type who will fulfill
          Any chosen goal.

Chris Kamieniecki is also one
Who our school holds quite near,
His plans and his expected goals
Are working for a year.
His love of the wild outdoors
Of hunting and fishing too
Will be part of his future
Whatever he can do.

Chris Kolenosky a long time friend
          Left our class this year,
He went to Lac La Biche for school
          With ties to Worsley here.
Small engines will be his trade
          But farming holds him too,
This far off college offers him
          What Worsley could not do.

Cody is another lad
Who graces our hallowed hall,
He's active in the world of sports
Especially basketball.
Cody loves to hunt and fish
It is his biggest dream
To make these things part of his work
It is part of his scheme.

          Danae's a joyous girl
          Who's active in our school
          Student Council, Sports and SADD
          With her they're really cool.
Still more schooling's in her plan
          As Augustana calls,
It won't be long and she'll be roaming
          Post-secondary halls.

Dusty, now what can be said
About this guy so bright,
Except his sense of humour
Keeping every corner light.
His jovial, joking, laughing ways
Amuse us every one
The future that he holds in store
Is working in the sun.

We need a rodeo star in every class
          And Grant fits that bill
          Every summer weekend
He's gone to get his fill,
Of riding and roping and having fun.
          But Monday brings him here.
Apprenticeship - the trades do call
That's where he'll be next year.

Jeanine a graduand fine
Who joined us in high school,
From Cleardale reaches she did come
She is nobody's fool.
But it was Worsley Central School's
Pride to have her here.
She joined in every sports team
And Student Council for each year.

          Jennifer is a girl
          With confidence galore;
One can always count on her
          But music's at her core.
Jen refs and scorekeeps at our games
          She's Worsley's biggest fan,
And Student Council relies on her
Like no one else they can.

Josh is an active sort,
To our school he does bring,
A ready wit, a pleasing guise
Student Council is his thing.
A Bachelor of Science he will take
At the U of A
Eventually a doctor's role
At home, at work, at play.

Kimberly is one of a kind.
A nurse she wants to be.
Grande Prairie College calls her hence
          Where we will surely see,
          Her love of basketball persist,
          For she's a sportsman true
          Steadfast, patience, skilled and keen
We know what she can do.

Now just what can one really say
About Laine that's new
Except he kept us entertained
With every wild hair-do.
But seriously, as Laine completes
And ends his school this year;
He's searching in the music world
To start a new career.

Ryan's the one next on the list,
          Bear Canyon's where he's from,
          But he's off to Grande Prairie town;
          Electricians - here he comes.
          Ryan's interests whilst with us
Are sports just through and through.
          Basketball was his forte
          Frightening quite a few.

Our next young man is Tyler, and
Sports are his claim to fame,
With track and field and basketball
And medals to his name.
His next year's plans are still unsure
But wrangling's in the scheme,
I'm sure no matter where he goes
He'll be part of the team.

Zain we know is friend to all
          And very, very cool
As much as he enjoys his days
He works real hard at school.
What Zain's future holds in store
Is still up in the air,
But with his strong zest for life
          Success will be right there.

And that concludes the grads on stage
                 I've introduced them all,
And I hope that you will join with me
                 In wishing one and all
The best for their own futures
                 Fond memories of their school
As they go forth and leave us here
A new life to be their rule.

As most of you know, this community, this school and specifically this class has had to endure a recent tragedy when on April 25, 2003 a classmate and a friend was tragically taken suddenly and unexpectedly. Robin Smith should have been up on this stage with her classmates, and yet fate did not deem it so. However, just because her physical presence is not with us here tonight does not mean that she is not in the hearts and minds of many of us here tonight. With that in mind I would like to offer you my tribute to one who is sadly missed.

TRIBUTE TO ROBIN SMITH

Robin Amber Smith
A classmate, sister, friend,
A loving, carefree, joyous girl
In memory we send
This tribute.

As we say good bye
And remember you tonight;
We know that you are with us now
Your spirit in full flight.

For you never could sit quite still
And let the world go by;
Instead you brightened up the day
Now you brighten up the sky.

          Robin was an active girl,
For school teams she was there,
And Student Council called to her,
In art, she had the flair.

          Her academics mattered too
          Competing for good grades;
But schoolwork wasn't her whole life
At three thirty it would fade.
          Friendship, laughter, having fun,
          New interests would take hold;
          Horses, music, family life
          Or quadding, ever bold.

Tonight as we celebrate
We miss her one and all,
And remember her with sadness;
But I know if she could call
She'd tell each and every classmate:
"Graduation's a time of glee
So enjoy this night and don't be sad
My spirit is flying free".
