Our annual Integer Wars competition was held in the grade 7/8/9 and 10 math classrooms again this year. Students competed against each other, and against the clock, to achieve the best possible result when doing integer operations mentally. The contest was set up as a tournament; a sample question might look like this:  - 6 -  - 2.   A typical match would pit two students against each other on the computer, with ten questions each, and 100 seconds to answer them. A student's score was the number of seconds left after answering all ten questions, with a mistake costing a 10 second penalty. Typically, the winners' scores were in the 90 percent range, which meant they were answering questions at a rate of at least one per second, with no errors.

Grade 9 Winners:
1st: Janine     2nd: Danielle

Grade 10 Winners:
3rd: Gerald     1st: Katlyne     2nd: Colter

Grade 7/8 Winners
2nd (Gr. 7): Michelle   1st (Gr. 8): Holly
2nd (Gr. 8): Jocelyn   2nd (Gr. 7): Cole

In Grade 7 and 8, the overall winner was Holly, who also went on to beat the teacher by a score of 99-98 to double her prize.
