The grade 5 and 6 classes were called upon to help solve a crime ... the disappearance of Mr. Willis's Jeep. Using a set of investigative tools carefully prepared by Mr. Phelps, the students observed the crime scene, collected clues, analyzed evidence, and eventually succeeded in confronting a suspect.

The Crime Scene

Gathering Evidence

Students compared shoe impressions found at the scene with a database of shoe prints

One piece of evidence seems to point to Mr. Carleton. Can you figure out which one?

Students analyzed the ink from the ransom note using chromatography.

They also analyzed the handwriting by comparing it to samples collected from likely suspects.

Finally, they chose their most likely suspect and took his fingerprints, to compare with the one left on the ransom note.

The suspect was confronted and charged with the crime!

The first students to collect and analyze the evidence and identify the suspect were Taryn & Paige.
