Our annual Integer Wars competition will be held in the grade7-10 math classrooms again this year. Students compete against each other, and against the clock, to achieve the best possible result when doing integer operations mentally. The contest is set up as a tournament; a sample question might look like this:  [ - 6 -  - 2 ].   A typical match would pit two students against each other on the computer, with ten questions each, and 100 seconds to answer them. A student's score is the number of seconds left after answering all ten questions, with a mistake costing a 10 second penalty. Typically, the winners' scores are in the 90-100% range, which means they are answering questions at a rate of at least one per second, with no errors.
