Plasticine is used for play, and as a modelling medium for more formal or permanent structures. Because of its non-drying property, it is a material commonly chosen for stop-motion animation. Students can make finely detailed items, as it holds its shape well. Simple sculpting tools also help in the creation process.

This is a good project for students to have fun with. You might assign a topic, like 'food', or 'musical instruments', or even 'cats'. Or let students' imaginations run wild.

The cheapest plasticine works best, as it does not get hard, and can be reused. (Note that this is not 'Play Doh', which does not hold a shape well, and will harden and crack). More expensive brands of plasticine will harden in the air, but won't crack, and can be painted.
