This activity is an easy one and lots of fun. We've designed it with a Christmas theme, but it could be used any time.

We created little figures using walnuts. All of the materals used were inexpensive, and obtained from Amazon, including the walnuts! We used small Santa hats, and acrylic markers. You'll also need quick-drying glue; a hot glue gun would be ideal.

We attached the figures to small circular wooden disks.

Other materials we could have used, and also easily obtainable from Amazon:
  • cotton wool (this would have made a better Santa)
  • tiny cowboy hats (perfect size for walnuts)
  • stick-on eyeballs
The acrylic markers are a good investmant; they allow for drawing tiny details far better than paint brushes and acrylic paints, and will stick to almost anything.

The wooden disks are also useful for other crafts. They come in a variety of sizes, with the bark still on them, and take stain or paint very nicely. We have a series of 'outdoorsy' stencils we plan to use with them to make some great looking wall hangings.
