Create your own bridge design. Possible options include arches, suspensions, trusses or a composite (a combination of any of these). Remember that trusses made from triangles are very strong.

Create a preliminary design on graph paper. Show additional close-up views of critical areas. Then neatly draw your bridge to scale on a piece of construction paper using a ruler. Label your bridge with features that provide strength. Hand in this sheet so the teacher can approve it, and assign a mark.

Now begin construction. Build the sides first, then the center truss. Attach them together when they are fully built, and dry.

Keep in mind the rules for proper design for the contest; they can be printed out.
