You need three pieces of information to solve this problem:
- The radius of a chocolate orange is 3.2 centimetres
- There are 20 wedges
- The formula for the volume of a sphere is (4/3)πr3
Can you calculate the volume of each wedge?
Solution:
The central angle θ of each wedge is 360°÷ 20 = 18°
This makes up θ/360 or 18/360 of a full sphere
The formula for the volume of one wedge will be
V = (θ/360)(4/3)πr3
V = (18/360)(4/3)π(3.2)3
V = 6.9 cm3
Alternate answer: find the volume of the sphere and divide by 20
