The Rocky Mountain Horse is a small but recognized breed, and its calm nature makes it ideal for working around cattle, and for 4-H projects. The horse is sure-footed on rough ground, and its gait lets horse and rider cover greater distance with less tiring. Rocky Mountain Horses are medium height, with a wide chest. The horse has an ambling four-beat gait ... when the horse moves, you can count four distinct hoof beats. This is a natural gait present from birth, that does not require teaching. All Rocky Mountain Horses have a solid body color; some have minor markings on the face. The legs can be white, but only below the knee. |
