The Petronas Towers

These were at one time the world's tallest buildings. Each of the twin Petronas Towers in Malaysia is 88 stories, with tall spires that reach to 1483 feet. (The Sears Tower in Chicago is 110 stories, and the twin World Trade Center towers in New York were each 110 stories). Although these other skyscrapers were created with higher occupied floors, (the highest occupied floor of the Sears Tower is 200 feet higher than the top floor of the Petronas Towers) they are not considered as tall. According to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, spires count, but antennae don't. Spires do not contain floors, but they are counted in the world's tallest building race for one architectural reason: they're nice to look at!
