Conduction is how heat moves through liquids and solids, by bumping each particle in a substance until they are all vibrating. Conduction is slow. It happens faster in some materials than others. Materials that conduct heat easily are good conductors. These are some good and some poor conductors of heat:
Take a look at the illustrations below. Conduction won't work unless the particles vibrate. The farther apart the particles, the less quickly conduction happens.
