Dear Parents: Your son/daughter will be participating in our school Science Fair this year, along with all students in grades __ through __. Previous fairs at our school have been very successful, with almost all of our students entering excellent projects. We hope for the same sort of results again this year. In addition to awarding prizes to the best school projects, we also hope to send the best ones from grades 7-10 to the Regional Science Fair. Our past results at the Regional Fair have been quite good, with various first and second place finishes, and even a winning entry selected for the All-Canada Science Fair. Science has become an increasingly important part of our society in the past decade, and will continue to be of greater importance in the future. Students who gain an interest in science early in their life will go on to become informed citizens making wise choices. In addition to obtaining an understanding of a specific science concept, students participating in a Science Fair benefit in many other ways. They learn how to do research. They improve their communication skills, both written and orally to the judges. They improve their skills in oranization and presentation of information. All of these benefits will help them do better in school, and in any future occupation. Your son or daughter will soon be asked to choose a project, and begin researching and planning. Guidance and help will be available from our teachers for this, and class time will be provided. However, it is expected that most students will do the actual work of the project at home. An information package (duplicated entirely here) has been provided to every student to help them choose and complete a successful science fair entry. We would ask you to please be supportive of their work, but also to let them do the work on their own, so that they can be rewarded for their individual effort. Students will be asked to submit a final rough plan for their project by _______ at the latest; after that they will not be able to change topics. Projects will be available for viewing by the public after judging, sometime in mid-March. More information will be available as we get closer to the Fair date, through newsletters and our website. We look forward to seeing you at the Fair. |
