The Fibula

The fibula, or calf bone, is the outer and thinner of the two long bones in the lower leg. It is narrower than the tibia (the shin); the two bones are parallel and attached at both ends by ligaments.

The upper end of the fibula does not form part of the knee; it doesn't reach high enough, and it's in the back. The lower end forms part of the side of the ankle joint.

The fibula's main function is to provide attachment for muscles; it doesn't provide much support.
