The Phalanges
The phalanges are the small bones that make up the fingers. Each finger has three phalanges; the thumb has only two.
The phalange nearest the hand is called the
proximal
phalange; the one at the tip is the
distal
phalange.
Other bones in the hand include the
carpals
(at the wrist) and the
metacarpals
(in the hand itself).
