The Phalanges

The phalanges are the small bones that make up the toes. Each toe has three phalanges; the big toe has only two.

The phalange nearest the foot is called the proximal phalange; the one at the tip is the distal phalange.

Other bones in the foot include the tarsals and the metatarsals.
