We'll show you how to find the volume and surface area of a sphere.

Example 1: Find the volume

V = 4·π·r3
          3
V = 4·π·(5)3
          3
V = 523.6 cm3

Example 2: The volume is 1000 cm3. Find the radius

V = 4·π·r3
          3
1000 = 4·π·r3
               3
3000 = 4·π·r3

238.73 = r3

            6.2 = r
   by doing a cube root on your calculator

Example 3: Find the surface area

SA = 4·π·r2

SA = 4·π·(8)2

SA = 804.2 cm2

Example 4: The surface area is 1500 cm2. Find the radius

SA = 4·π·r2

1500 = 4·π·r2

119.37 = r2

10.9 = r
