 After winning at our WCS Fair, John Bjorklund and Geoff Lund took their Science Fair project to the Regional Fair at Fairview College, where it was selected as the best Engineering project, eligible for the Canada-Wide Fair. They went on to enter that Fair, which was held in Calgary that year, and they had a great time. Their project was a home-made water filter, meant to be inexpensive, which used pvc pipe and socks! Although we've had other winners at the Regional Fair while it was still being held, John and Geoff are the only students from our school ever to win a trip to the Canada-Wide Fair! In addition to obtaining an understanding of a specific science concept, students participating in a Science Fair benefit in many other ways. They learn how to do research. They improve their communication skills, both written and orally to the judges. They improve their skills in oranization and presentation of information. All of these benefits will help them do better in school, and in any future occupation. |
