Fake Endorsement

The video here is fake, of course. It's an example of AI; in this case, a computer generated face that can act and talk like a real person. No such person actually exists.

The site that makes them sells them to businesses, with the promotion that their AI characters are cheaper than hiring real actors.

How could I pass up this free testimonial!?

The client just has to provide written text, and the character will speak it, rather realistically.
They offer 20 second free samples. So of course I had to try one out, with a short, shamelessly self-serving plug for my site. It took quite a bit of finagling to get the code just right, but it was worth it. I think.

Nevertheless, the use of this sort of video A.I. in politics, for example, could become something of a nightmare if the artificial person is created to look like an actual well-known person. Fortunately, at this point in time at least, making a likeness of an actual person say things that they really didn't is still pretty easy to detect. Our brains are very very good at detecting the nuances of facial expressions in faces we know.
