The giant Leaf-tailed Gecko is not only a master of camouflage, but can also mimic a human-like scream. Resting on the forest floor of Madagascar during the day, the grey-green fringed flaps on their lower jaws and sides flatten against the leaf litter. This hides their outline, increases their own surface area and refracts light, making them practically invisible to a predator’s eye. If you come across one, it will open its mouth and make an alarm call that sounds like a child’s scream!
