Converting Polar Coordinates to Rectangular
Here's a point shown using polar coordinates. It would be labelled (4, 300°)
Let's look at how to find the rectangular coordinates of this 4th quadrant point.
The point (x,y) can be located by finding the horizontal and vertical components of r. This should be familiar to you from the section on vector components in Physics 20.
So the point (4, 300°) in polar coordinates has rectangular coordinates (2, -3.5)
Summary: When converting polar coordinates to rectangular coordinates, you can find the values of x and y using the methods shown at the right.
