Here's the trick. Tell your friends that you can make things move with just your mind, and that you can teach them to do it too!
Have a bunch of small glasses of water prepared on a table, along with a pepper shaker. Sprinkle pepper on the surface of the water in each of the glasses. Demonstrate that nothing happens when you put your finger in the water; have your friends try it too. Nothing surprising here.
Then claim that, with the power of your mind, you can make the pepper move away from your finger. This time when you dip your finger in a glass, the pepper moves quickly away from your finger to the edge of the glass. Challenge someone to try it with another glass; they won't be able to make it happen. But when you put your finger in the same glass they used, the pepper moves. Now tell someone to really concentrate, to think at the pepper to move. As they're concentrating, you guide their finger into a glass, and the pepper moves! But no-one else will be able to do it!
Here's how it works. Beforehand, smear the tips of several of your fingers on one hand with dish soap. When you want the pepper to move, use one of these fingers. Soap forms a very thin layer on top of water, and spreads out to fill the surface; when the soap comes off your finger and starts to spread, it takes the pepper with it.
Put your finger in the water and see what happens!
To get your friend to experience the 'power of the mind' too, rub a little of the soap on his finger as you're guiding it into the glass. He'll never notice.
