Dividing Radical Expressions

Radicals divide:



The numbers in front divide separately:



Sometimes they just reduce:



The radicals divide separately:



Just as with multiplication, numbers and radicals are divided or reduced separately.



Sometimes there will be a little simplifying afterwards:






Here 16 divides by 8, and both radicals divide by √2:

Notice that the answer still has a radical left, but it's in the denominator.
When this happens, we have to continue simplifying using a technique called Rationalizing the Denominator, which we're dealing with separately
.

That's also where we'll look at dividing by binomial radicals.
